Planting A Tree at Bloodwood

Hi everyone,

and the promised blog about how David plants a tree. We are trying to rejuvenate this part of the land; the soil is sandy clay and difficult. And that is where our tree is going. The land is 100% chemical free and we promote and care for surrounding animals and plant life!

The picture (right) is the area behind the house to be, it is surrounded by a dry Sclerophyll Forest which is associated with low fertile land. However, you can change this. So first find a good spot, not too close to other trees or buildings, pipes, or electrical wires, and consider how much sun and shade your tree needs, and make sure the tree is not too big for the space when it is fully grown.

We got our spot.

Clear the spot.

Ready for digging

Check the size

Cheers from David! 🙂

More digging

The hole is ready

Sprinkle Gypsum

Gypsum is a natural clay that breaks up hard soil!! It is a must on hard, infertile, clay, or clay sand land.

Gypsum is widely mined and is used as a fertilizer and as the main constituent in many forms of plaster, blackboard or sidewalk chalk, and drywall.

And there is where our home will be (mine and David’s) and as you can see we have plenty of sticks and leaves to use as fertilizer. Try to pick a mixture of soft and hardwood sticks.

add sticks

add leaves

add compost and soil

mix compost in

add plenty of water

cool yourself 😉

add wood ash and

decomposed

more water and

greens like

Now put your tree in and keep building up the hole with leaves and soil

And now just a little more soil and top up with leaves and you are done!!! YEY!

The tree was planted on the 3rd of January 2023 and 4 weeks later the tree was established well and started a new growth!:

I hope this will be helpful, on Friday Tashi will be posting a video that I took (and I am terrible at taking videos), so Tashi will be busy fixing it this week. 🙂

Have a wonderful and happy week!!!

Miroslava xx
